The wood was carefully selected for an interesting grain pattern caused by side branches. The main body of the tube was turned in my workshop down to the required diameters. The grain was sealed using thin viscocity CA adhesive to bind the fibres togeter befor the surface was finished using several ever decreasing grade of abrasive paper. Once smooth,  two coats of cellulose sanding sealer was applied. A light rub with 3000 grit abrasive pad increased the sheen before several coats of Melamine lacquer were applied. Each coat being ‘de-nibbed’ with a 3000grit pad. Finally the finished components were assembled  ready for delivery.

The metal fittings have a highly polished gold plated finish to contrast with the highly polished black components at either end.

The top of this version is fitted with a rubber stylus suitable for use on most tablets and touch screens

A black Parker type refill is fitted as standard, but can easy be changed by carefully pulling out the lower section of the pen (as can be seen in the photo above). Then the mechanism is then unscrewed to remove the ‘Parker’ style refill. (again, shown in the photographs) . This standard refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

This pen was made specially as a wedding present for my good friends wife. I hope she is pleased with it!

The two parts of the pen body were then fitted to my lathe and turned down to the required diameters followed by several stages of sanding from 230 grit down to 1400 grit. The acrylic components were then finished to a high polish by using polishing compound.

The metal fittings have a polished gold plate to contrast with the highly  polished pink striped acrylic. The pen is a slim design to increase comfort for those who like to write!

A black Cross type refill is fitted as standard, but can easy be changed by carefully fulling the two halves of the pen apart. The refill is them unscrewed from the twist mechanism before replacing. This standard Cross refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

Contemporary pen fittings to be used but instead of using either wood or acrylic for the body I suggested wrapping the central tube in Chiyogami Yuken. This is beautifully screen printed paper from Japan. The designs were originally ased on the bright kimono textiles from the Edo period (1603 – 1868) which the papermakers from the countryside saw on fashionable wealthier ladies in larger cities.  Ciyogami, literally thousand generation (chiyo) paper (gami), is meticulously produced by hand. Each layer of colour is silk screened on individually. This chosen pattern is 日本の女の子 or Japanese Girl. The rolled paper was then cast in resin before being hand turned to shape. Several grades of abrasives were then used to polish the pen barrel followed by a final buffing with metal polish.
