I made it using a piece of Turkish Walnut retrieved from a broken Miroku shotgun stock.  This wood is renown for its spectacularly swirly reddish chocolatey brown grain patterns. This particular blank came from a Grade 5 stock which means it was originally selected for its particularly high quality grain.

The metal fittings of this pen have a highly polished 22kt gold finish to contrast with the highly polished black grip and end cap. The polished wooden body of the pen is separated from the polished  grip by an attractive  engraved gold band.

A black Parker type refill is fitted as standard, but can easy be changed by carefully pulling  the lower metal section from the coloured part of the pen. The metal twist mechanism is then unscrewed to reveal the refill.

This standard refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

Made from a broken Grade 5 Miroku shotgun stock. Only the most stunning grain blanks are used to make grade 5 stocks and are very sought after.  Despite a gun stock looking quite large they are deceptive in that much of the interior is removed to lighten the gun. Unfortunately for the handmade pen maker this means that very few pen blanks can be made from each stock.

The replica .30 calibre bullet cartridge and the chrome bullet tip both add authenticity to the look of this pen.

The pen has been made by hand turning a piece of  Mountain Ash and finishing it to a mirror polish.  All external components are glossy gunmetal plated to provide durable and dependable service.

The pen is very stylish and shows well in all lighting conditions and will make a memorable gift for any occasion, such as a Birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas, or Graduation Day.

The woodwork was sanded six times with progressively finer grit  abrasive to create a very smooth surface.  The surface is polished to a mirror like shine using 12 polishing steps to create a showroom quality finish.

Comes with your choice of ink color and a velvet sleeve. Replacement Parker Style ink cartridges can be found at most stationers.

A black Cross type refill is fitted as standard, but can easy be changed by carefully fulling the two halves of the pen apart. The refill is them unscrewed from the twist mechanism before replacing. This standard Cross refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

I turned this elegant pen from a blank cut from a damaged Miroku Grade V shotgun stock. Grade V stocks are made from the very highest quality Turkish Walnut featuring exquisite grain figuring. This one had been damaged in use and provided a  dark lustrous contrast  of the Walnut and the polished deep chrome fittings  Its a perfect combination of refinement and industrial design.

The Vertex pen has a super smooth, quiet click mechanism. The pen comes with a black ‘Parker’ type refill installed. Replacements can be obtained from most good stationers.
