Tamarind trees are best known for their fruit, not wood. Tamarind trees are widely planted throughout the tropics both for their fruit, and also as an ornamental. Their heartwood is a deep reddish brown, sometimes with a purplish hue—heartwood portions of Tamarind tend to be narrow and are usually only present in older and larger trees. The pale yellow sapwood is very wide and sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Spalting and other discoloration are very common in the sapwood, and the majority of the Tamarind available in the U.K. is spalted sapwood. This is the wood used for this pen.

The wooden blank was hand turned on my wood lathe before sanding with progressively finer grit abrasives until very smooth. The sever coats of friction polish was applied until a gloss finish was achieved.

The refill can be easily changed by unscrewing the two halves of the body and putting the Cross style refill from its mounting.

Made from a genuine Perazzi walnut shot gun stock to compliment the deep gun metal plate.  What a perfect gift idea!

The replica .30 calibre bullet cartridge and the chrome bullet tip both add authenticity to the look of this pen.

The body of the pen was created from a damaged shotgun stock, hand turning a piece of Perazzi Turkish Walnut to the required diameter. It is then sanded smooth with several grades of abrasive finally using 12000 grit micromesh to  finish it to a mirror polish.  Four coats of a special hard polish are then applied. Each being buffed to a high shine on a revolving lathe. Perazzi Shot guns are some of the best in the world. Their stocks and forends are made of the finest quality Walnut root from centuries-old trees, like the one in the photograph.. Each blank is carefully selected and classified before they are subjected to a long drying processing before being made into stocks. Grading is based on the detail and colours of wood grain. This stock was graded SCO which is the highest grade Perazzi use.

All external components are glossy deep gun metal plated to provide durable and dependable service.

The wooden section is hand turned in my workshop from a piece of Spalted Yew wood from a damaged tree that had to be removed.  Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi. Although primarily found in dead trees, spalting can also occur under stressed tree conditions or even in living trees. Although spalting can cause weight loss and strength loss in the wood, the unique coloration and patterns of spalted wood are sought after by woodworkers.
