This particular pen made from locally sourced Ash. In fact so local it was from the park next door given to me when the grounds men were thinning out the trees!

The material blank is the cut to make the two parts of the pen body. These two blanks are then turned on a wood lathe to the required diameters to fit the 22ct gold plated fittings.

Once the shape has be completed they are sanded smooth using several grades of wet & dry abrasive paper finishing with 1600 grit. Micromesh abrasive is then used in various grade ending up with 12000 grit. Finally 3 coats of hardwearing polish are applied whilst the lathe is spinning and is then buffer to a high gloss. After leaving to stand overnight a coat of hard Carnuba wax is applied before a final polish. Once complete the various components are assembled using a ‘Parker Mini’ type refill.

The writing tip is extended by twisting the upper and lower body halves, then the opposite rotation to retract for safety. To replace the refill the upper and lower body parts are carefully pulled apart to allow the refill to be removed.

Ash wood was used for this pen as it resembled scrimshaw. Scrimshaw is derived from the practice of sailors on whaling ships creating common tools, where the byproducts of whales were readily available. The term originally referred to the making of these tools, only later referring to works of art created by whalers in their spare time. Whale bone was ideally suited for the task, as it is easy to work and was plentiful.

Replacement Parker Style ink refill is done by carefully pulling the metal tip away from the wooden body. The metal mechanism is then unscrewed to reveal the refill inside. These refills can be found at most stationers.

The metal fittings of this pen have a highly polished gold finish to contrast with the highly polished black grip and end cap. The polished wooden body of the pen is separated from the polished  grip by an attractive  engraved gold band.

A black Parker type refill is fitted as standard, but can easy be changed by carefully pulling  the lower metal section from the coloured part of the pen. The metal twist mechanism is then unscrewed to reveal the refill.

This standard refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

This timber was retrieved from a neighbouring park when arboroligists where thinning out the trees. When turning the blank it showed dark markings in the wood which makes the finished pen very unusual and attractive

The 10ct  twist action pen features the Artisan style centre band and is accented with black chrome on the writing tip and cap.

A premium double-twist mechanism operates the black Cross type refill that is fitted as standard..

However, this can easy be changed by carefully pulling the two halves of the pen apart. A standard Cross type refill can be purchased at most stationary stores.

Wavy grain Sweet Chestnut wood has been used as it represents the wavy mane and tail of the horse. Chestnut also being a recognised colour for a horse or pony. I had an idea to combine a band of Ash at the grip end of the main body to represent the colour of the hoof and then as I was turning the laminated blank on the lathe I tried to create a representation of the lower front leg of the pony…… A polished Chrome clip complete with horses head was used too……..What a stunning pen!

The pen is constructed first by hand selecting each piece and then turning the pen to final shape. A finish is then applied and the pen is then sanded 7 times with progressively finer grits (180, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1200) of sandpaper to create a very smooth surface.  The surface is polished to a mirror like shine using 7 polishing steps to create a showroom quality finish.

All external components are finished with a polished Chrome finish which will provide durable and dependable service. The ball point pen extends with the twist of your wrist and and writes smoothly and easily.

This roller ball pen was inspired by using a combination of a shotgun cartridge for the top cap and a 30 cal bullet for the main body of the pen. Its unique design makes it the ideal gift of anyone interested in shooting, be it game, clays or targets.

This particular pen has been made using the dark Coconut wood to replicate the cartridge complete with its engraved 22ct plated cartridge cap. A detailed miniature shotgun is used to create the clip.

The main body of the pen is from a piece of Ash to give a contrast to the cap section. Replica 30cal bullet is used to create the writing tip, whilst the 30cal case and replica primer is used to to close the top of the pen.

All metalwork is 22ct gold plated to enhance the appearance.
